Op woensdag 26 november heeft het Europees Parlement gestemd voor een uitstel van de EUDR met 12 maanden. Een grote meerderheid steunde dit voorstel. Met de uitslag van deze stemming komen de posities van het Europese Parlement en de Europese Raad nu min of meer overeen. De volgende stap is een zogeheten ‘trilogie’-overleg tussen de Europese Commissie, de Raad en het Parlement. Pas na deze onderhandelingen zal het uitstel definitief zijn. Deze besprekingen zullen de komende weken plaatsvinden om nog voor het einde van dit jaar tot een besluit te komen.

As you will have noticed already, the European Parliament adopted its position for the negotiations with the Council on the proposal to amend the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The mandate confirms the political agreement reached in the Council and, in particular, introduces a new postponement of the application of the Regulation:
• until 30 December 2026 for medium and large enterprises, and
• until 30 June 2027 for micro and small operators.
The amendments will be analysed and an overview of all implications will be provided.
In any case, it appears that the review clause has also been approved: “By 30 April 2026, the Commission shall conduct a simplification review of the Regulation and, on this basis, submit a report to the European Parliament and the Council, accompanied, where appropriate, by a legislative proposal.
